I know a lot of people hate going to shows at Mother*ck*er and Tribeca Grand, but if you like your audiences rowdy, sweaty and not-afraid-to-dance, these are the places to catch hot bands before it’s off to Bowery (big)-Webster(bigger)-Roseland(biggest). I got there at 11:00 (November 12, 2005). The line was only about five minutes long. When Art Brut went on at 12:30, the downstairs of Tribeca Grand was more packed than I’ve ever seen it. People were pouring out of every corner. I lost a bit of hearing, but luckily it came with the experience of a great show. They played a shorter set than the one at Mercury Lounge two nights earlier – partly because they talked less between songs. That’s not a good or bad thing, just different. The songs flowed together more. The energy in the room was felt by the band who gave it right back. Are you ready Art Brut?
