NYC’s River to River Festival just announced the official initial lineup of FREE NYC summer concerts. This includes the shows at South Street Seaport, Battery Park, and the World Financial Center. Previously announced highlights include Hot Chip, Richard Hawley, Okkervil River, The Hold Steady, Eels, Smoosh, Alex Chilton, Super Furry Animals, and Son Volt. All of those are now confirmed. New surprises include 4th of July with Belle & Sebastian, Mates of State at Castle Clinton, and a confirmation that Ted Leo is playing the Seaport for the 5th year in a row.

New York City’s largest free outdoor dance series, co-presented with The Joyce Theater, returns to Battery Park featuring world class dance with companies from across the U.S., representing the best that modern dance and ballet have to offer, including a special evening dedicated to the Salsa. Tonight’s program is designed to illustrate how the art of dance passes from generation to generation. Trisha Brown Dance Company provides the jumping off point. The company will be joined by Stephen Petronio Company performing Bloom (Stephen danced with Trisha Brown) and Ashleigh Leite’s work Autopsy (Ashleigh danced with Stephen Petronio). www.RiverToRiverNYC.com

In the afternoon, amateur salsa dancers will compete for cash prizes, with the winner making a return guest appearance during the 7:30pm performance by champion and award-winning professional salsa dancers. The evening concludes when the audience is invited to break out and join the salsa party.
