This weekend is packed with plenty of opportunities to get down outside. To begin with there is P.S.1’s weekly Warm Up, followed by New Release’s Beach Party, LIC on Saturday (8/8). This week’s Warm Up features the Music Committee of the (late) Merce Cunningham Dance Company: Stephan Moore and David Behrman, Eats Tapes, Lovefingers (highly recommended disco! check out the tons of free mixes on his site), Master Khan (check out his mix from last month on Beats In Space), and special guests. Stephan Moore is a Brooklyn sound artist whose work relies on the collection and use of real world sound, perception of sonic environments, improvisation and interactivity. David Behrman has been active as a composer and artist since the 1960s, making sound and multimedia installations for gallery spaces as well as concert music. The MCDC was founded in 1953 by Modernist choreographer Merce Cunningham, who commissioned more new music by American composers than any other single choreographer.
Warm Up Admission
On Warm Up Saturdays, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the admission fee to P.S.1 and Warm Up is $10.00. Included in this price is access to all exhibitions and to Warm Up. We do not offer special discounts for seniors or students on Warm Up Saturdays. Cash only.

Following Warm Up, Dublex Inc will be getting deep at the Beach Party at Water Taxi Beach:
Dublex Inc is a quartet of producers from Stuttgart, Germany. They’re all experts in sound and design, each taking part in running Pulver records over the past decade. Tonight’s set features two of the quartet. Expect it to be organic and deep.

Follow the bass to Rumsey Playfield for Meanred’s Dark Disco in the Park! This free party at Central Park’s Summerstage includes a dj set from Boys Noize who has been busy making loads of new music lately including a new album, Power, out in October with a world tour to follow (tracklisting & videos featuring some new tracks below) and a 12″/digital release, Waves/Death Suite, with Erol Alkan out at the end of the month on Boysnoize Records. Drop the Lime will also be bringing some new sounds to Central Park with a performance featuring a live band instead of his usual dj set up, plus DFA/Modular’s Canyons will be there too! Another excellent opportunity to get down outside (as well as indoors) is the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival. Now in its second year, the day long festival has moved from last year’s location of the BKLYN Yard to the Old American Can Factory where tons of acts will be performing both indoors and out in the courtyard from 4pm all the way until 4am. Check out the official website for the full line-up, ticket info, and everything else you need to know about the festival. Also, be sure to check Famous Friends’ Twitter the day of the festival for the announcement of a special guest performer! You can download some mini mixes from BEMF artists over at Nicky Digital, Streetlab’s Bootleg Remixes, (Vol. 1) over on their website, and a couple of tracks from Flashmen and 33Hz at the top of this post.

Simian Mobile Disco
I’ve been looking forward to Simian Mobile Disco‘s dj set at the Williamsburg Waterfront for a while. When they deejayed following their live set at the Highline Ballroom back in April, things seemed to be on the darker, techno-ey side, instead of the super varied, upbeat SMD deejay sets I’ve loved for years. Hopefully being outside will shift their selections toward something a bit lighter. More info and full schedule here.
Apparently last Sunday Best Maurice Fulton‘s set was awesome, despite the party being moved from the BKLYN Yard to the Bell House (check out the video below). It looks like Sunday might be rainy again this week (but hopefully not) so be sure to check Sunday Best’s Twitter for updates. If all goes well Germany’s Motor City Drum Ensemble will be bringing Detroit sounds to the BKLYN Yard. – Friendly Fires (who were recently put on the Mercury Prize 2009 shortlist), play the first show of their final two US tour dates at Le Poisson Rouge. They are a really fun, very upbeat, and energetic band whose music is very, very dance-able. They were great at the Annex back in December and I highly recommend checking them out at the smaller LPR (especially as their second New York date the following night at Music Hall of Williamsburg is sold out).
