The Wombats are coming (2011 tour dates)

Liverpool trio The Wombats will soon be back in America for the first time in almost three years, playing Glasslands on Jan. 17 and Mercury Lounge on Jan. 18. Before they hit NYC, they play Satellite in Los Angeles on 1/12 and the Rickshaw Stop on 1/13. The band’s second album, This Modern Glitch is out in April and contains last year’s UK Top 20 single “Tokyo (Vampires and Wolves)” and new single “Jump in the Fog,” and videos for both are at the bottom of this post.

The Wombats are best known for “Let’s Dance to Joy Division” — also a UK hit — which came out in 2007, around the time of their last visit here, when they played the Annex in March 2007. Their first album, A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation, came out in England later that year and saw an American release a year after that. While their lyrics lean towards pop culture referencing/novelty territory too ofter, they do have some catchy tunes.

The Glasslands show also features Sigmund Droid and US Royalty; the Mercury Lounge show is with Dream Diary and the Ambassadors. Below are a few Wombats videos and tour dates.
