Willis Earl Beal had me at his opening line, “I am gonna sing you some songs and then I am gonna get off the Goddamned stage!”…He’s a born performer and for the duration of his hour long set, he sang like a man possessed! Think of the vocals of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ “I Put A Spell on You” and add a whole lot of soul with an addictively entertaining stage presence and you’ve got Willis Earl Beal. [accordingtog]

Willis Earl Beal opened for Wu Lyf at Bowery Ballroom on April 27, the second of two NYC shows (Music Hall of Williamsburg was the night before) and part of a string of shows supporting the UK band following their two-weekend sets at Coachella (pictures from week 2). Willis Earl Beal mainly has European dates scheduled in the upcoming months, but he’ll be in the US for a few festival dates and a free NYC show at Central Park Summerstage on June 7 opening for Bobby Womack.
