Light Heat (ex-Mazarin) released debut album (stream it), playing two NYC shows this week

Some of you may remember early ’00s Philadelphia band Mazarin that broke up after their 2005 album, We’re Already There. Frontman Quentin Stoltzfus has been quiet since but has been continually working on music and debuted his new project, Light Heat, quietly last summer. And with help from Paul Maroon, Matt Barrick, Peter Bauer and Walter Martin of The Walkmen, Stoltzfus recorded Light Heat’s debut album, The Mirror, which is out this week on Domino-affiliated label Ribbon Music. Not that dissimilar to what he did in Mazarin, Light Heat make melodic psych pop with liberal doses of harmony and pounding percussion. It’s a nice record; you can stream a couple tracks below and listen to the whole thing via Spotify.
Light Heat are playing two NYC shows in celebration of the album’s release this week: tonight (6/26) at Glasslands with quality support from Caged Animals and Life Size Maps (tickets); and a late show (doors at 9:30 PM) at Mercury Lounge on Thursday (6/27) with The Dardys (tickets).
