What's going on Monday? (Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Black Prairie, Dope Body, Ok Vancouver Ok, Colourmusic & more)

Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy at the Allen Room in February (more by Sachyn Mital)
Bonnie Prince Billy

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows. Here are some highlights…

Black Prarie, Michael Hurley @ City Winery
Over the weekend, Black Prairie (aka most of the Decemberists except Colin Meloy) played Newport Folk Festival (and, surprise, joined Colin at his set), and before returning home, they’re stopping in NYC tonight for a show at City Winery.

Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy & Dawn McCarthy @ Town Hall
Slow folk mastermind Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy (aka Will Oldham), who also just played Newport Folk Fest, returns to NYC tonight for a Town Hall show with collaborator Dawn McCarthy, who he recently released an Everly Brothers covers album with.

Dope Body, DJ Dog Dick, Guardian Alien @ Death By Audio
Baltimore noise rockers Dope Body end up in NYC a lot, and tonight they’re at Brooklyn DIY spot Death by Audio. Always a good band to catch, and tonight’s support ain’t too shabby either.

Riff Raff, Heems, Lakutis, Dirty South Joe @ Highline Ballroom
RIff Raff teams with ex-Das Racist member Heems and Das Racist affiliate Lakutis for what will probably be a fun night of goofball rap.

Real Estate @ Maxwell’s
Three days left for the venerated Hoboken indie landmark, and tonight one of New Jersey’s more prominent newer bands says goodbye. Sold out.

The Bern and The Brights, Val Emmich @ Maxwell’s
Before that Real Estate show, Maxwell’s will also host this early show.

Tiny Victories, Shook Foil, Colourmusic, 100 Watt Horse @ Pianos
Armed with two bassists, Oklahoma’s Colourmusic make rhythm-heavy, kraut-leaning pop. If you ever wanted Flaming Lips to cover Can, it might sound like this. They’re on early (8 PM) if you’re worried about your bedtime. UPDATE: Tiny Victories had to drop off the show due to a family emergency.

The Can’t Tells, Glow God, Low Fat Getting High, Body Parts @ The Studio at Webster Hall
Ahead of The Can’t Tells’ August residency at Pianos, the Brooklyn band will headline a show at The Studio at Webster Hall tonight. Also on the bill is quality Brooklyn punks Low Fat Getting High, who will join on the band on the last night of their Pianos residency too.

Birthmark, Stephen Karl, David Milone, Universe, Jeremy Yocum @ Grand Victory
Nate Kinsella, who spent time in Joan of Arc and is appearing on the new Tim Kasher album, will headline a local bill at Grand Victory with his Birthmark project tonight.

Marvin Sapp, Israel And New Breed @ Wingate Field (FREE)
The free shows at Wingate Field continue tonight with gospel from Marvin Sapp and Israel & New Breed.

Heavenly Beat, Nicholas Nicholas, Blizzard Sisters @ Cameo Gallery
Onetime Beach Fossils bassist John Pena is working on the second Heavenly Beat album as we speak but plays tonight — maybe some new songs — with fellow Brooklyn artist Nicholas Nicholas whose EP on Bandcamp sounds like it’s being played at the wrong speed (in a good way?).

Ok Vancouver Ok, Katie and the Lichen @ Cake Shop
Yes, the band Ok Vancouver Ok are indeed from the West Coast Canadian city, and have been led by Jeff Johnson for nearly 10 years. Their latest album, Food Shelter Water, came out in April and is strummy K Records style indie. You can stream it below.

Obie Trice, Young HD & more @ S.O.B.’s
Eminem affiliate Obie Trice (real name, no gimmicks) is set to return this year with a new mixtape/album, The Hangover (check out the single, “Bang”), and today he brings his tour through NYC for a show at SOB’s.

Ben Howard, Michael Kiwanuka @ Central Park Summerstage
British singer Michael Kiwanuka, who released the impressive Home Again last year, opens for Ben Howard in Central Park today. Sold out.

Youth Lagoon, Prince Rama @ Webster Hall (CANCELED)
Reminder that this show is cancelled and refunds are available.

Good comedy in NYC tonight too, like Night Train w/ Wyatt Cenac guest host Carolyn Castligia, Ophira Eisenberg, Liz Miele, Joel Kim Booster @ Littlefield and Mike Birbiglia @ Union Hall. For more laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar.
