Sly & the Family Stone released a new box set (streams); Sly playing shows with Rufus this fall

Sly Stone

Soul/funk legend Sly Stone (of Sly and the Family Stone, who are responsible for a handful of classics albums in the genre) appears to have remained off the live show circuit since playing Coachella 2010, but that will change this fall. He’s got two upcoming shows scheduled (at the moment at least) with another group of funk legends, Rufus (the band Chaka Khan was once in). The first of those is in NYC on October 5 at BB King’s and the second is in DC the next day. They play two shows at BB King’s (8 PM and 10:30 PM), and tickets for both are on sale now. There’s also a party for the show at BB King’s that same day with NYC funk band Days of Wild performing three sets (tickets).

Sly and the Family Stone just released a new box set, Higher!, this week (8/27), collecting tons of tracks and some previously unreleased material from their career. Stream the whole thing at Spotify, or check out four of those tracks, along with a video of Sly and Rufus performing together in 2010, below.
