MONO @ LPR, 11/18/2013

When many bands attempt to make heavy music they draw a straight line to aggressive vocals, double bass and drop D tuning; but sometimes the heaviest music of all takes a non-linear route that atmospherically pounds so deeply it feels as though it is altering your heart rate in its presence and you aren’t even entirely sure why. A sonic combination of Red Sparowes and Sunn O))), MONO is one of those bands.

The Japanese post-rock outfit are currently in the States to begin work on a new album and are using that opportunity to perform a few select dates, including last night’s set at New York’s Le Poisson Rouge (11/18). Opening was Majeure, the semi-side project of Zombi drummer A.E. Paterra whose electronic synth-sequencing definitely conjures palpable influences of his original band. Pictures from their sets are in this post.

Remaining MONO tour dates — many of which are with Mick Turner — are listed, along with more pics from the whole LPR show, below….
