Austerity Program

NYC duo The Austerity Program‘s last full length was 2007’s Black Madonna (followed by the 2010 EP, Backsliders and Apostates Will Burn), both of which came out on the now-defunct Hydra Head Records. Following that label’s demise, the band have started their own label, Controlled Burn Records, and will finally release a new LP, Beyond Calculation, on June 17. The record’s first single, “Song 30,” pretty much picks up where Backsliders and Apostates Will Burn left off, with the band’s noise rock/post-hardcore blend sounding as crushing as ever. If you’re unfamiliar, their bass-heavy, drum machine-backed sound likely has some Big Black influence, and any fans of Jesus Lizard, My War, or Pissed Jeans should dig this too. The track makes its premiere in this post and can be downloaded above or streamed below.

The band will celebrate the new record with a release show in their hometown on June 4 at Saint Vitus with Mockingbird, Force and Fire and Scowl. Tickets for that show are on sale now.
