stream Viet Cong's debut album

Viet Cong

There’s no shortage of quality new albums being being made available for early streaming today. Here’s another to add to your “listen” pile: the self-titled full-length debut from Canadian group Viet Cong that features Matt Flegel and Michael Wallace who were in Women. While their 2013 cassette toyed with a few styles, their album seems to pull mostly from the dark, arty side of post-punk. If 154 is your favorite Wire album, chances are you’re going to like the bleak sonic landscapes explored here. The band fires like an overwound clock and, while single “Continental Shelf” is the closest the album comes to pop, it is a nonetheless captivating listen. You can stream the whole thing over at NPR and the album is out January 20 via Jagjaguwar.

As mentioned Viet Cong will hit NYC this month during their tour, playing two shows: January 28 at Union Pool with PC Worship and Honey (sold out) and January 29 at Mercury Lounge with What Moon Things (tickets).
