“The Hum” is a free series happening every Monday in April at Manhattan Inn in Greenpoint, which is a “platform for unique first time collaborations between musicians working in various genres such as R&B, indie, beat-boxing, classical, punk and more with live projected video art.” Last night (4/6) was the series’ kickoff show and featured Deva Mahal & Shilpa Ray, plus Belle Mare & Teletextile, and Cantina’s Renata Zeiguer & Cassandra Jenkins. Pictures from last night are in this post.
There are three more shows for “The Hum”:
April 13: Elizabeth and the Catapult; Hannah Epperson, Shelley Burgon and Indigo Street (Shy Hunters); deli and Ashley Jackson; with projections by Sofy Yuditskaya
April 20: Teeny Liberson (TEEN), Zoe Brecher (Brainfreeze), and Jen Goma (A Sunny Day in Glasgow); Sarah Pedinotti (Lip Talk), Kalmia Traver (Rubblebucket), Kaila Mallady, and Jordyn Blakely (Invisible Familiars); Alyse Lamb (EULA) and Alex Nelson (Oracle Room); with projections by Carmen Osterlye
April 27: Xenia Rubinos and Indigo Street (Shy Hunters); Jen Goma (A Sunny Day in Glasgow), Cassandra Jenkins and Caroline Davis (Maitri); Cat Martino (Stranger Cat) and Erin Fein (Psychic Twin); with projections by Laura Bartczak
Again, “The Hum” shows are free at start at 10:30 PM. Manhattan Inn is very small, so be sure to get there early.
Speaking of Shilpa Ray, she’ll be playing Rough Trade on May 23. It’s a record release party for her new album, Last Year’s Savage, and no wave icon James Chance will play as well. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (4/10) at noon with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (4/8) at noon.
