It certainly has been interesting to watch Purity Ring‘s transformation from their early days as a somewhat mysterious act with a fantastical/whimsical stage show to the band that played Terminal 5 twice this week on their tour and, last night (6/3), had singer Megan James crowdsurfing in her white jumpsuit. While the unique visual elements are still there — they still use those illuminated percussion pods — Purity Ring are now entirely sleek, confident, and purposeful. With their recently released sesecond album, Another Eternity, taking them further into dance music territory (and popularity), it will be interesting to see where things head next.

Yet their roots still show, as their choice of openers — both old friends — make clear. Braids, who have made an equally dramatic shift in direction towards dance music, gave a terrific set,  and Purity Ring’s old Gobble Gobble bandmate, Born Gold, opened the night. Pictures continue below…
