Dale Watson, “Austin’s answer to Johnny Cash“, released his new album, Call Me Insane, in June. It’s the latest in a long a prolific career that’s had its joys and sorrows. The Johnny Cash comparison is apt, with a deep resonant voice, honky-tonk sound, and an abundance of truck-drivin’ songs. (He sounds more than a little like Waylon Jennings, too.) If you feel most modern country doesn’t sound like country, Dale would probably agree — though he calls his sound “Ameripolitan.” You can stream Call Me Insane below.

As a man of the road, Dale’s currently on tour and will be in NYC on Saturday (7/11) at Bowery Ballroom with his band The Lone Stars, and Jason D. Williams and CatEyEs are on the bill as well. Tickets are still available. All tour dates are listed below…

Openers CatEyEs have a song called “Looking for Cash” on their debut EP which was produced by Dale Watson and released via his Ameripolitan label. The duo’s two members, Celine Lee and Kacie Marie (who is a pinup model) recently hosted Man Cave Daily’s podcast and had Watson on as a guest. You can stream a few snippets of the CatEyEs EP below.
