The Libertines new album, Anthems for Doomed Youth, was released today. Their first album in 11 years, it’s pretty good — certainly better than you might have expected three years ago — and worth checking out. Stream the whole thing via Rdio below.

In much less positive news, Thursday night (9/10) The Libertines were to have played a release show at London’s Electric Ballroom in Camden but the gig was canceled at the last minute, citing a “medical situation.” With co-frontman Pete Doherty’s troubled past (he’d been in rehab in Thailand earlier this year), all manor of rumors began to circulate. Today on Twitter, The Libertines assured fans Pete is OK, saying “We can assure everyone that Peter is safe. Clearly this is a private matter, but we also feel it necessary to let people know he is OK.” Tonight the band was supposed to play Manchester, but that show has also been canceled. No word on the rest of their UK tour. Stay tuned.
