Grimes finally released her anticipated new album Art Angels today (listen), but before she did that, she brought her tour to NYC for a performance at the Guggenheim’s International Gala Pre-Party on Wednesday (11/4). The Guardian was there, and they described the whole spectacle like this:

Grimes jumps into action inside a smallish circular stage, like a Star Trek transporter, with white pillars and stretched fabric ascending towards the high museum ceiling. The crowds gather on the space’s famous spiral levels, but mostly stood down on the ground floor, surrounding the stage. It’s crowded, but not uncomfortably so, given the current Grimes ascendancy.

They didn’t love the show though, saying the set sounded “mushy and homogenous.” Did you go? What did you think?

Some of Grimes’ famous pals showed up, like A$AP Rocky (a fancier affair than the time they crashed 285 Kent toghether) and Dev Hynes (a less hot and sunny affair than the time they played Warm Up together). Pictures of them, Grimes, DJ SADAF and more are in this post.

Grimes returns to NYC with her signee Nicole Dollanganger for sold-out shows on 11/16 at T5 and 11/18 at MHOW. More pictures from the Guggenheim below…
