Sun Kil Moon & Jesu streaming collaborative album, expand tour (with Steve Shelley on drums)

by Andrew Sacher

Sun Kil Moon + Jesu

Sun Kil Moon & Jesu already released two songs from their collaborative album that comes out next week (1/22) via Caldo Verde/Rough Trade, and now they’re streaming the whole thing over at SKM’s website. As those singles hinted, some of it sounds more or less like just Sun Kil Moon, but Jesu’s influence does become very clear on other parts of the album. The first two songs, “Good Morning My Love” and “Carondelet,” have Kozelek doing his usual plainspoken wordy delivery over what’s essentially sludge metal. It’s a cool mix that sounds a lot more natural when you hear it than it might seem. They’re also accompanied by some very talented guests, including Slowdive’s Rachel Goswell, Low, Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock, and Will Oldham. The whole album’s pretty great — check it out here.

As previously mentioned, Jesu and Sun Kil Moon have a few shows together. More dates have been added since we last spoke, and it’s been revealed that Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley will be drumming for them. The shows include NYC’s Music Hall of Williamsburg on February 26. Tickets for that show are still available.
