Arto Lindsay explores Brazilian music with "Myth Ashtray" series at The Whitney

Composer and no wave legend Arto Lindsaywill host a four-day event titled Myth Ashtray: A Project at the Whitney Museum of American Art from September 7-10, as part of the museum’s retrospective on Brazilian-American artist Hélio Oiticica:

In conjunction with Hélio Oiticica: To Organize Delirum, Brazilian-American artist and experimental composer Arto Lindsay devises a series of talks, screenings, and musical performances exploring Tropicália, samba, and the Brazilian avant-garde. Lindsay maps connections between the art, music, and film that arose out of these aesthetic and political movements, which were central to Oiticica’s practice. Contributors include Barbara Browning, Júlio Bressane, Gustavo di Dalva, Christopher Dunn, and Pedro Meira Monteiro.

Lindsay will be playing a solo set on Thursday, September 7 (tickets), while the remaining three days will include many film screenings, talks, and other musical performances, including Lindsay collaborating with Alexander Calder’s Noisemakers on Saturday, September 9. The Friday, Saturday and Sunday programs are included with museum admission.

The full schedule of “Myth Ashtray” events is listed below.
