California black metal crew Ash Borer are getting ready to release a new album. The Irrepassable Gate will be released on Profound Lore on December 2. They've shared the 11-minute title track in advance of that, and its a good one.

Ash Borer's brand of black metal is artful and deliberate, cut with elements of post-metal and funeral doom for ultimate mournfulness. "The Irrepassable Gate" is a journey through different blackened textures revolving around a circular central riff. It's an enveloping listen, and by the time the song ends with chiming solo lead guitars it feels cathartic, like you've been through a wringer and spit out exhausted but relieved. You can listen to that here:

Ash Borer don't have any dates currently scheduled but their website promises a West Coast tour in January.
