Ashley Shadow

Ashley Shadow releasing her debut solo album (stream "In Shadows"

You may know Vancouver musician Ashley Shadow from playing bass in the now-defunct band The Organ, and also singing backing vocals on Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy’s Lie Down In The Light, Pink Mountaintops’ Outside Love, and The Cave Singers’ Welcome Joy. She’s now set to release her self-titled debut solo album, which was produced by Josh Wells, who drums in her sister Amber Webber’s band Black Mountain (Ashley Shadow’s real name is Ashley Webber). The album also features contributions from Ryan Beattie (of Himalayan Bear), Peter Le Grand and Darcy Hancock.

We’re premiering the album’s newest single “In Shadows,” which is the kind of haunting loner folk that’ll likely hit fans of Leonard Cohen, Sibylle Baier or Angel Olsen, but Ashley’s got a bigger voice than these kinds of artists usually do. She actually sounds quite a bit like her sister (not a bad thing at all). Her album isn’t only this kind of stuff though. Previous single “Tonight” whips out a fuzzy psychedelic rock guitar solo, and “Tired” is upbeat indie rock. Check out all three below. The album’s due out April 15 via Felte (pre-order).

She’s also opening a handful of Canadian dates on Black Mountain’s tour. Those dates are listed below.
