At The Gates

At The Gates reveal first song from new album 'To Drink from the Night Itself'

Swedish melodeath greats At The Gates‘ 1995 album Slaughter of the Soul is a classic of not just the melodeath subgenre but heavy music overall. It’s influenced countless bands over the years, and it still sounds timeless today. So it was of course a big deal when At The Gates when they finally followed it 19 years later with a new album, At War with Reality, which had their sound in fine form. It’s thankfully taking At The Gates less time to follow that album, as they’ll release To Drink from the Night Itself on May 18 via Century Media. The one downside is that this is the band’s first album since lead guitarist and songwriter Anders Björler left the band, but if the first single — the title track — is any indication, To Drink from the Night Itself still sounds like classic At The Gates. The song came out today, and it’s a real ripper that should be keeping hopes high for this album. Watch the Patric Ullaeus-directed video for the song below.

The new album was produced by Russ Russell, and it features artwork by Twilight 13 Media’s Costin Chioreanu. That’s the artwork above and you can see the tracklist below.

At The Gates are returning to the US for Decibel Metal & Beer Festival in March. That’s their only currently announced US date, but hopefully more will be added soon. They also have shows in Europe, Asia, and more. All dates are listed below.
