Melbourne's The Stevens pull from a variety of landmark indie rock -- The Clean, Guided by Voices, Pavement -- but don't sound quite like any of them. The band's debut album, The History of Hygiene (on Chapter Music), was produced by Mikey Young (Total Control, Eddy Current Suppression Ring) and is 24 tracks of lo-to-mid-fi shambly pop perfection. No doubt there is a lot of this type of stuff out there, but The Stevens make superior product, and you can stream the whole album below.

The Stevens were just added to Gonerfest 11's line-up and they'll be touring around North America before they get there. That tour includes three NYC shows: September 10 at Cake Shop with fellow Australians Free Time and Ballroom, then September 11 at Baby's All Right with Limited and headliners Ducktails playing too, and finally Death by Audio on September 14 with San Francisco's Rat Columns. Advance tickets are on sale now for the Baby's All Right show.
