Baby Dee retiring, playing final show at National Sawdust after UK gigs

Transgender performance artist, multi-instrumentalist, classically trained harpist and onetime circus sideshow performer Baby Dee, who has collaborated with Antony, Andrew WK, Current 93, Will Oldham and more, is retiring from the stage. Her final show will be at Brooklyn’s National Sawdust on December 30Sxip Shirey, who is presenting the show, says, “Leonard Cohen wrote one ‘Hallelujah.’ Baby Dee has written 10 of them. Baby Dee, for me, is the most profound songwriter of our time. I am convinced that many of her songs will eventually become canon for singers.”

Called Baby Dee’s Big Swan song, the show also features performances by Aimee Curl, Sarah Alden & Rima Fand, and Lacy Rose & Alaina Ferris doing Baby Dee songs, plus Dorit Chrysler on theremin. “Come say goodbye and hear her sing about predestination, elevator guys, manic depressive snowmen, and disgruntled reindeer.” Tickets are on sale.

Right before the National Sawdust show, she’ll perform at London’s Cafe OTO on December 19 & 20. Listen to some of Baby Dee’s music below.
