Bad Sports releasing new LP (stream a track); Lost Balloons on tour now

It’s only been two years since the last LP from Austin-based garage punks Bad Sports, but it would be quite OK if you confused it for sooner– Greg Rutherford and Daniel Fried have spent recent years in Radioactivity, Lost Balloons and TV’s Daniel while Orville Neeley has just resurrected OBN IIIs at a recent Austin gig. And while all of these projects have kept the trio of guys active and literally touring the world, they haven’t lost sight of their time together as Bad Sports, making sure to write and plan their latest effort for Dirtnap Records.

Well, the fruits of their labor have almost arrived in the form of the new LP Constant Stimulation and their latest single, the powerpop masterpiece-in-the-wings “Don’t Deserve Love” which makes its debut here today. With a soaring chorus and the type of instrumentation that will both make you wish you’d have thought of something so simple yet wonder how they can be so deceivingly complex, it’s the sort of thing you’d expect from the bubbling smarty-pants who played on favorites like “Off Switch,” “No Enemies and Silent”. Order your copy via Dirtnap Records ahead of its 10/26 release.

In related news, Daniel Fried is on tour now with bandmate Jeff Burke and Yusuke Okada’s Lost Balloons, the most recent entry into the Burke (Marked Men, The Reds, Potential Johns, etc) canon. The tour, which Pale Angels are opening, hits Brooklyn’s Union Pool tonight (9/7) (tickets) with local support from CHEEX (featuring Mark Perro from The Men). All Lost Balloons dates are listed, with the flyer for the Union Pool show, below.
