Bang On A Can announce Asphalt Orchestra Pixies shows & more for 2015 & 2016
NYC-based new music collective Bang on a Can have announced their 2015-2016 agenda, and that includes the return of the all day Bang on a Can Marthan next summer (happening in Rotterdam, MA and NYC), and much more before that. BoaC’s marching band Asphalt Orchestra will perform Pixies songs at Rockwood Music Hall on September 24 as part of “FONT Music 2015 Presents: Without A Frame” that also features yMusic, Stephanie Richards + Greg Saunier duo and more (tickets). That should help them wrap up for their next show as part of opening weekend (10/4) at new Brooklyn venue National Sawdust where they’ll play “an inventive street set including Pixies material, music by Bulgaria’s infamous Ivo Papasov, plus music by Tom Ze and Thomas Mapfumo.” They’ll also play the very pricey Park Avenue Armory GALA on October 15 with The Young Professionals & Contemporaneous.
Other BoaC events in NYC include the annual People’s Commissioning Fund Concert at Kaufman Music Center’s Merkin Hall on February 6. That’s part of the Ecstatic Music Festival, and features world premieres by Caroline Shaw, Gabriella Smith, Rene Lussier and more. Details TBA.
