Bar Matchless slated to close (though it's open for now)

Greenpoint bar and venue Bar Matchless has been a mainstay since 2003 but looks to soon be the latest casualty in the real estate boom. Greenpointers reports that the building its in has been sold, and Matchless advertised its New Years Eve party as their “Last New Year’s Eve.” Their 2018 concert calendar has no events, but the bar remains open for now, “until they lock the doors on us,” owner Erik Green told Greenpointers.

The small backroom venue at Matchless has been host to many notable shows over the years, with, punk, metal, NYC Popfest shows, tons of comedy events, and more. It’s also a good place to hit before or after a show at Warsaw or hang out at in general, and has good bar food too. We’ll be sad to see it go.
