Barack Obama's favorite music, movies, books and TV shows of 2019
While Barack Obama may not be president anymore, he’s still a very busy person, but he also manages to stay pretty on top of pop culture. Earlier this week, he shared via Twitter his favorites of 2019. As for music, he wrote “If you’re looking for something to keep you company on a long drive or help you turn up a workout, I hope there’s a track or two in here that does the trick” and his list includes Sharon Van Etten‘s “Seventeen,” Lizzo‘s “Juice,” Solange‘s “Binz,” Mavis Staples‘ “Change,” Big Thief‘s “Not,” Frank Ocean‘s “In My Room,” Beyonce‘s “Mood 4 Eva,” The National‘s “Oblivions,” Rosalia‘s “Con Altura,” DaBaby‘s “Suge,” Lil Nas X‘s “Old Town Road” and more.
Meanwhile, Obama’s list of movies included Parasite, Marriage Story, Booksmart, The Farewell, Little Women, The Irishman, and more, and he also listed three TV shows that he “considered as powerful as movies”: Fleabag Season 2, Unbelievable and Watchmen. For books, his list spanned fiction and non, and included things published before this year, like Adam Johnson’s 2012 novel The Orphan Master’s Son, as well as 2019 works including Casey Cep’s Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud, and the Last Trial of Harper Lee, and Albert Woodfox’s Solitary.
Check out his Best of 2019 lists below.
