Washington DC songwriter and producer Bartees Strange released an EP of The National covers, Say Goodbye to Pretty Boy, on Brassland back in March, putting his own memorable spin on "Lemonworld," "Mr. November," "All The Wine," and more of the band's classic songs. Now he's made two more The National covers available on streaming services, both of which were previously only on vinyl, "The Geese of Beverly Road" and "Looking for Astronauts." Both are from the National's 2005 album Alligator, and both are really transformative versions of the originals: "Looking for Astronauts" leans funky and discordant, while the tender "Beverly Road" gets just the right dose of soul. You can hear both covers, the originals, and the full EP, below.
