As allegations of sexual conduct against powerful men continue to come out, the New York Times has published the accounts of nine women accusing Israel Horovitz, a playwright, screenwriter, and also father of Adam Horovitz aka Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys. One of the women, Jocelyn Meinhardt, was Ad-Rock's high school girlfriend and she claims Israel raped her when she was 19. "He was a good mentor, until he was the worst, probably most nightmarish mentor you could have," Meinhardt said.
The article points out that Ad-Rock gave his own statement, saying, "I believe the allegations against my father are true, and I stand behind the women that made them."
The other women's stories include accusations of groping, forceful kissing, forcing women to touch his penis, and other gross, horrifying behaviors.
Israel Horovitz told NYT that while he has "a different memory of some of these events, I apologize with all my heart to any woman who has ever felt compromised by my actions, and to my family and friends who have put their trust in me. To hear that I have caused pain is profoundly upsetting, as is the idea that I might have crossed a line with anyone who considered me a mentor."
