Belle & Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch wrote and directed 'God Help the Girl' (win tix to NYC screening w/ Murdoch & cast)

In 2009, Belle & Sebastian’s Stuart Murdoch released God Help the Girl, a musical project that featured the band and guest vocalists telling a rock opera of sorts. It’s now become a motion picture musical written and directed by Murdoch, which begins its North American release on September 5 and stars Hannah Murray (Game of Thrones, Skins), Olly Alexander (of the band Years and Years), Emily Browning and Pierre Boulanger. The story is about a lazy summer in Glasgow, as Murdoch explains:

A better summer, or at least a summer when something happened. It happened to a boy and a girl and a girl in a city roughly the same size and population of Glasgow. Perhaps the canals were a bit grimier, the high-rise buildings taller, the streets emptier when you needed them to be, and the beat clubs busier than the ones around here. But on the whole the city was this one.

Check out the trailer for the film below. There’s a private screening of God Help the Girl this Monday (8/25) at 6:30 PM at Nitehawk Cinema with Stuart Murdoch and cast (Emily Browning, Olly Alexander and Hannah Murray) in attendance. We’ve got two pairs of tickets to give away. Details on that are below.

Average joes can catch the film in NYC when it opens September 5 at Village East Cinemas. All North American screening dates are listed, along with contest details and the trailer, below…
