Ben Gibbard shares "The Concept" from his 'Bandwagonesque' covers LP

As part of Turntable Kitchen’s Sounds Delicious series, Ben Gibbard is covering Teenage Fanclub‘s seminal third album, Bandwagonesque, in full.

Teenage Fanclub’s Norman Blake had a very warm reaction to the news Gibbard would be doing his own take on the album:

I was thrilled and extremely flattered when I heard that Ben Gibbard had decided to cover Bandwagonesque in its entirety. Needless to say, the re-imagining of the album by this very talented fella is both inventive and deftly executed.

The first track released from the project is Ben’s cover of the 1991 record’s opening track, “The Concept”. The result is a sprawling, 8-minute epic that’s a noticeable contrast from the already-great original, which clocked in at 6 minutes. Adorned with hazy reverb and beautiful harmonies, it’s a very interesting and beautiful cover that should please fans of both acts. Hear the track below, as well as the original.

Ben Gibbard’s Bandwagonesque will be released July 28 via Canvasback Music/Turntable Kitchen. You can preorder it on vinyl now through the Turntable Kitchen subscription service.
