Better Oblivion Community Center share new song & Tiny Desk; Lucy Dacus shares song

Phoebe Bridgers and Conor Oberst have been busy this year with their collaborative project Better Oblivion Community Center, who have a great debut album out, and who have been touring all year with even more dates coming up. In addition to their album, they had a tour-only 7″ single that featured the previously-unreleased “Little Trouble” and the “Daydreamin’ Version” of “Sleepwalkin'” from their album. “Little Trouble” is a very cool dose of upbeat indie rock that’s as good as anything on the album, and the new version of “Sleepwalkin'” is noticeably reworked and worth hearing even if you already like the original. The original is a laid-back indie rocker, and this new version is bouncy synthpop. They’ve now put that single up on streaming services — listen to both songs below.

BOCC also just released an NPR Tiny Desk Concert, where they performed stripped-down, mostly-acoustic versions of “Dylan Thomas,” “Exception to the Rule,” and “My City,” backed by frequent collaborator and tourmate Christian Lee Hutson. Watch video of that below too.

Conor also has upcoming solo dates this summer, including stops in CT, NY, NJ, and more. All of his dates here.

Speaking of Christian Lee Hutson, yesterday he put out a video for his single “Northsiders” and you can watch that below. The song will appear on his upcoming Phoebe Bridgers-produced album; more info on that TBA. Christian also has upcoming tour dates supporting J.S. Ondara and Okkervil River, and those are listed below.

In one last bit of related news, Phoebe Bridgers’ boygenius bandmate Lucy Dacus continues her 2019 series of holiday songs today with her new Mother’s Day song “My Mother And I.” Lucy says:

Being adopted has encouraged me to consider what mothers pass on through blood and body, and what they impart in the way of socialization and context. We — daughters, and all children — easily inherit the shame and fear of our mothers, but also the pride, self-assurance, and lessons of love. This song focuses on body image and the distinction between the body and the soul, which I can hardly claim to have clarity about to this day. I also reflect on traits my mother and I share as Taurean women — how we are steadfast but headstrong, empathetic but grounded, and dedicated to finding and giving reliable love and comfort.
