Big Mother Gig back with first LP in 22 years ft. Dicky Barrett & Britta Phillips (watch a new video)

Milwaukee alternative rockers Big Mother Gig were initially around for two albums and an EP in the early/mid 1990s, and after breaking up, frontman Richard Jankovich went on to form Burnside Project and make remixes under the name Pocket. After two decades away, Big Mother Gig reunited in 2016, released the Quintessentially Average: 92-96 compilation, and then put out new music for the first time in over 20 years with 2017’s Almost Primed EP. They’ve been playing reunion shows (including gigs with Gin Blossoms, Luna, Soccer Mommy, and more), and earlier this month they released their first full-length album since reuniting, No More Questions. The album has guest vocals by two exciting guests, Mighty Mighty Bosstones frontman Dicky Barrett and Britta Phillips (Luna, Dean & Britta).

We’re premiering the video for the Dicky Barrett collab “Low Payout,” which is the kind of melodic punk ripper that’s perfect for Dicky’s trademark rasp. Dicky, who is also the announcer for Jimmy Kimmel Live, filmed his part for the video backstage at BAM while Kimmel was there for a run of Brooklyn shows. Here’s what Big Mother Gig tells us about it:

We met Dicky when we performed at a benefit concert together and immediately hit it off. We were in the midst of finishing our record and had this song half-finished from last year. When Dicky heard it, he thought it was perfect for him so we cut it really quick so we could include it on this album. For the video, we wanted to do something that showed the pure raw energy of the song so we used some live footage of the band. Dicky filmed his parts at BAM in Brooklyn while backstage at the Jimmy Kimmel show which led to some really striking visuals. It all came together in a few days and it felt really natural.

The song with Britta is a more somber, mostly acoustic song, and you can listen to that one and watch the new video for the Dicky collab below.
