Black Label Society doing '20 Years of Sonic Brewtality' tour w/ Conan & Atomic Bitchwax

While he’s got some time off from playing guitar in Ozzy Osbourne’s band, Zakk Wylde is taking his own band Black Label Society on the road to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their 1999 debut album Sonic Brew. It’s billed as the “20 Years of Sonic Brewtality Tour,” and there’s very solid support from UK doom/sludge greats Conan and NJ stoner rock vets The Atomic Bitchwax. BLS will do two shows in each market, including one night with Sonic Brew played in full and one “greatest hits” night. BlS are also playing the Sonic Temple, Epicenter, and Welcome to Rockville festivals.

The band will also release a “reimagined” version of Sonic Brew with two bonus tracks, titled Sonic Brew – 20th Anniversary Blend 5.99 – 5.19, on May 17 via eOne, and eOne has also licensed the BLS albums Stronger Than Death, 1919 Eternal, The Blessed Hellride, Hangover Music Vol. VI, Mafia, and Shot to Hell, and will issue them in “never-before-released formats over the next few years.” Talking about the new version of Sonic Brew, Wylde says:

The original recording back in 1997 was mastered with high volume, alcohol, and dance. We went in and worked off the existing performances and focused on the high volume and dance while replacing the booze with viagra and anabolic steroids.

I wanted to re-blend and re-choreograph this release to be the most brewtal and dance-tactic album since Gloria Gaynor’s ‘I Will Survive” dominated the dance floor at Studio 54!

The tour includes NYC’s Bowery Ballroom on May 6 and 7. Tickets for those shows (including a two-day pass option) go on sale Friday (2/1) at noon with a Citi presale starting Wednesday (1/30) at 10 AM.

The tour also includes two-night stands in Denver, Dallas, Chicago, Toronto, and LA. All dates are listed below.

The Atomic Bitchwax are also playing the NYC edition of Desertfest.
