Black Thought, Nico Muhly, Ash Koosha, Lido Pimienta & more part of National Sawdust's 5th Season

National Sawdust is gearing up to celebrate its fifth anniversary and they’ve just announced the lineup for the venue’s fifth season, which they’re calling “Take Root”: “In celebration of our fifth anniversary, National Sawdust is returning to our roots, turning the spotlight on the creative process and nurturing bold new music projects from exceptional new voices.” The guest curators for Season 5 are Black Thought of The Roots, who curates a week of shows from October 7-10,  and composer and singer Ted Hearne who will curate shows in June 2020.

The Season 5 lineup lineup includes: Timo Andres and Nico Muhly performing music by Meredith Monk and honoring composers Missy Mazzoli, Paola Prestini, Ellen Reid, and Emma O’Halloran on 9/27; Future Islands’ William Cashion performing new ambient works he calls “postcard music” also on 9/28; 2017 Polaris winner Lido Pimienta on 10/19; composer and iconoclast George Crumb performing on 10/28 in celebration of his 90th birthday; as well as “Claire Chase Presents the Composing Women Project” (9/29), Magos Herrera paying tribute to the late João Gilberto (10/2), percussion trio Square Peg Round Hole (11/8), string quartet ETHEL (12/18), and more.

The Season 5 Artist-in-Residence program will present projects from Iranian-British musician Ash Koosha, singer and multimedia artist Sonic, mezzo-soprano Lucy Dhegrae, composer collective Kinds of Kings, Canadian opera collective Against the Grain Theatre, and music/theatre collective Michael Mwenso & The Shakes.
