Tonight (10/20) in Chicago, Bob Weir will wrap up his tour in support of his new album Blue Mountain, which he made with members of The National, who spearheaded a massive Grateful Dead tribute album earlier this year. The tour just hit the NYC-area for Brooklyn shows at Kings Theatre on Friday (10/14) and Saturday (10/15), and then a Port Chester show at the Capitol Theatre on Sunday (10/16). His tour has National members Bryan & Scott Devendorf backing him, plus Josh Kaufman (who co-produced that tribute LP and played on several songs), Steve Kimock (who’s played with Bob and in other Dead-related bands for decades), and Jon Shaw (Shakey Graves, Joe Russo, Wolf!). The live lineup was supposed to have Aaron Dessner of The National too, but he had to sit the tour out due to a family emergency. However he did in fact make it to the three NYC-area shows.

Also at the Kings Theatre and Cap shows, Conrad Doucette (who co-curated and plays on the tribute and also plays on Blue Mountain) came out for a few songs. The Bandana Splits, aka Annie Nero, Dawn Landes and Lauren Balthrop, joined Bobby at the Cap too. On Friday night at Kings, Nate Martinez (ex-Thieving Irons, Pela) played guitar in the encore. On Saturday night at Kings, Sam Cohen played guitar in the encore. Nate, Sam, and the Bandana Splits are all also on Blue Mountain. Pictures of the Cap are in this post.

The day after the Cap show (Monday, 10/17), Bob Weir and his band (Aaron Dessner included) played “Lay My Lily Down” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. You can watch that performance right here:

Conrad Doucette and fellow Takka Takka member Gabe Levine also have a new project called Mismi, and they’ll play the final night of Brassland’s residency at Threes Brewing (333 Douglas St in Brooklyn) on Sunday (10/23). It’s billed as an ‘Extended Family Variety Show’ and features a bunch of artists who have already played the residency. The lineup includes Arone Dyer’s dronechoir (of Buke & Gase), Ocean Music, The Perennials, Fusilier and Hoferlanz (aka Ben Lanz, who’s in LNZNDRF with Bryan & Scott Devendorf). Surprise appearances are promised too. More info here.
