The Bouncing Souls at Irving Plaza

Bouncing Souls wrapped up Irving Plaza run (setlists & night 3 pics)

Jersey punk heroes The Bouncing Souls wrapped up their BrooklynVegan-presented three-night run at Irving Plaza on Saturday night (12/17). Pictures/setlist of night one (with Masked Intruder and The Scandals) are HERE. Pictures of night three (with Anti-Flag and Up For Nothing) are in the gallery above. I caught night two (with Off With Their Heads and Crazy & the Brains).

At Friday’s show, they of course played a few from this year’s Simplicity, but most of the set was old favorites. It was heaviest on How I Spent My Summer Vacation, hitting tons of highlights from that one like “Gone,” “Manthem,” “Private Radio,” “That Song,” “True Believers,” and more. They were a ton of fun as always, and both the band and the crowd were in great spirits all night. Basically every song was a singalong. Both openers on Friday were great too, with OWTH playing the kind of pop punk that should immediately appeal to any Bouncing Souls fans who don’t know them (and it seemed like a lot of the crowd did know them), and Crazy & the Brains sounding a little different than usual. Frontman Christoph Urban was just singing (usually he plays guitar too), and they’re sounding closer to like, the New York Dolls (and further from their anti-folk roots), than ever before.

Night 2 and night 3 setlist below. Night 3 pics above.
