Emo vets Braid recently detailed their new album, No Coast, which comes out on July 8 via Topshelf — their first full length since 1998’s Frame & Canvas — and they’ve now just released its first single, “Bang.” As anyone who followed post-Braid projects (Hey Mercedes, The Firebird Band, etc) or heard their 2011 reunion EP Closer to Closed knows, the guys have gotten less raw over the years, so one couldn’t necessarily expect the new record to be an entire return to form, but “Bang” actually does amass a lot of that Braid-style aggression. It’s not “Nineteen 75” (or even “The New Nathan Detroits”), but it’s definitely a rocker and keeping the anticipation for the new album pretty high. Check it out, via NPR, below.

Braid’s Bob Nanna brings his tour with Get Up Kids singer Matt Pryor to NYC on Friday (5/9) at Knitting Factory (tickets).
