Kevin Devine began his BV-presented Devinyl Splits release shows in Brooklyn on Friday (pics, review), and they continued at The TLA in Philly the next day (12/12) with a very special guest, Brand New frontman Jesse Lacey. Jesse joined Kevin for his songs "Cotton Crush," "Ballgame" and "Tomorrow's Just Too Late." Kevin and his band, The Goddamn Band, backed Jesse for Brand New's "Bought A Bride," "Mene" (their first new song in six years), and "Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Dont," the latter of which had Cymbals Eat Guitars singer Joe D'Agostino come out to sing the bridge. (And at the end, clearly he forgot that mics are for singing, not swinging!)
Jesse also did "Soco Amaretto Lime" solo, covered Nirvana's "Lithium" with KD&GDB and Joe D'Agostino, and sang guest vocals on Cymbals Eat Guitars' "Aerobed," which he produced. Check out videos of all those songs and more pictures of Jesse, Kevin, and Cymbals, below.
AbsolutePunk also points to a tweet from former AP writer Thomas Nassiff (who now runs Bad Timing Records, the label putting out the KD splits, with Zack Zarillo), confirming that Jesse will be the sixth and final installment of the Devinyl Splits series.
The show also included Nada Surf's Matthew Caws, Perfect Pussy's Meredith Graves, Tigers Jaw, and Owen (aka Mike Kinsella). Pictures of their sets here.
