Lee "Scratch" Perry reunited with former collaborator and fellow dub innovator Adrian Sherwood for this year's Rainford, and now they're releasing a dub version of the album titled Heavy Rain. The record also features some special guests, like Brian Eno who contributes to the knowingly titled "Here Come the Warm Dreads." Don’t get too excited, this is not a dub take on Eno’s instrumental title track to his near-perfect solo debut Here Come the Warm Jets. It is instead a bombed-out version of “Makumba Rock” from Rainford. As to what Brian Eno contributes, though, is as murky as the dub mix itself -- which is pretty excellent. “When we approached Brian about working on a track he didn’t hesitate and said he would happily do something with Lee Scratch Perry,” Adrian Sherwood said in a statement. “We worked together on a quick dub version of the track and took what was a crazy tune even further out there. I have always wanted to do something with Brian and hopefully there will be more opportunity in the future.” Listen below.
