First, Bright Eyes started teasing something for 2020, then they posted less vague teasers that seemed to more strongly hint at live shows and maybe a new release on Dead Oceans, and then one of those shows — the End of the Road festival — was confirmed. Now they’ve also officially confirmed shows in NYC, LA, and Tokyo, and the former Saddle Creek band confirmed the Dead Oceans signing too.

The NYC show happens at Queens’ Forest Hills Stadium on June 20. Making it even better, the show will be opened by Japanese Breakfast and Lucy Dacus (the latter of whom is in boygenius with Conor Oberst’s Better Oblivion Community Center bandmate Phoebe Bridgers). Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (1/24) at noon with a BrooklynVegan presale starting Thursday (1/23) at 10 AM. Check back here Thursday morning for the password.

Bright Eyes also play LA’s Hollywood Palladium for May 21 & 22 (tickets) and Liquid Room in Tokyo. All dates are listed below.

Of the signing to Dead Oceans (who also released the Better Oblivion Community Center album), label co-founder Phil Waldorf says, “Bright Eyes is not just a formative artist for me personally, but for countless people who work at Dead Oceans. To get to work with a band that is part of our own origin stories in falling in love with music is the rarest of privileges. We are thrilled to be part of another great chapter in Bright Eyes enduring legacy.” No word on a new album just yet, but our fingers are crossed! Stay tuned. Dead Oceans also posted a Bright Eyes teaser video featuring rehearsal footage of an orchestra, and you can watch that below.

Bright Eyes’ most recent album was 2011’s The People’s Key, and that’s also the last year they played live.
