Broken Social Scene began Webster Hall run, Dave Hill opened (pics, setlist)

Broken Social Scene began their three-night run at the newly renovated Webster Hall on Thursday night (5/16). Armed with a horn section, Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning and the rest of the large Toronto collective were also celebrating the release of their new EP, Let’s Try the After Vol. 2, and played tracks from that, the first Let’s Try the After EP (which came out in February), 2017’s Hug of Thunder, and older favorites like “Cause=Time,” “7/4 (Shoreline),” and “Ibi Dreams of Pavement (A Better Day).” Talking to the crowd, Kevin Drew acknowledged the current madness in Alabama and the rest of the world, but said he wanted everyone to enjoy the night, and hold onto it for the dark times ahead.

Comedian, guitar-shredder and occasional BrooklynVegan contributor Dave Hill opened the night with a stand-up set that did feature a little guitar humor and playing (including him covering Danzig’s “Mother,” sort of). Pictures from the whole night are in the gallery above and a pic of Broken Social Scene’s printed setlist is below.

Broken Social Scene play Webster Hall tonight (5/17) with Dizzy, and on Saturday (5/18) with Ariel Engle’s solo project La ForceTickets are still available.
