Broken Social Scene & The Belle Game @ Brooklyn Steel (pics, setlist)

After playing The Meadows fest over the summer, Broken Social Scene brought their Hug of Thunder tour back to NYC for a club show at Brooklyn Steel on October 4. The multitudinous current lineup of BSS opened the show with two oldies — “KC Accidental” and “7/4 (Shorline)” followed by “Halfway Home” and “Protest Song” from the new album. The whole show was a great mix of new and old, wrapping up with “Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl” and “Ibi Dreams of Pavement (A Better Day).” New vocalist/guitarist Ariel Engle held down the fort, with some onstage help from The Belle Game (who opened). Meanwhile, Kevin Drew spent some time singing from the middle of the crowd.
