Brooklyn Zine Fest is this weekend; Lauren Measure throwing a book release party +++ other Worriers dates

The Brooklyn Zine Fest is a space for creative, independent, talented voices from New York City and beyond to connect with an engaged audience. Our exhibitors create all kinds of zines to showcase their writing, illustration, photography, interviews, cooking, and any & everything else they’d like to share with the world.

Brooklyn Zine Fest returns this year from 11am to 6pm on Saturday (4/26) & Sunday (4/27) at the Brooklyn Historical Society (128 Pierrepont St. in Brooklyn Heights). Each day has 75 different exhibitors, plus panels in the Othmer Library on the second floor of BHS. Saturday has a panel on Queer & Trans* Zinesters at 4:30pm, and Sunday has one on Zine Libraries, Archives, and Collectives at 1pm, and another on Anonymity in Zine Making at 3pm. Thursday, April 24th at 7pm / FREE, All Ages:
Zines from the Borderlands: Storytelling about Mixed-Heritage
Featuring four Brooklyn Zine Fest exhibitors, this panel will discuss questions like, How can zines create new narratives and representations for mixed-heritage people, LGBTQ communities, and people of color? and, What is the role of zines, DIY and self-publishing within marginalized communities?

Friday, April 25th at 8pm / $8, All Ages (with beer for sale to 21+):
Brooklyn Brain Frame 2
Chicago’s hugely successful performative comics event returns to Brooklyn, with host Lyra Hill curating a lineup of comics artists, writers, and musicians to perform live versions of their audio and visual work. Featuring several zine fest exhibitors and other New York artists, this show promises wild visuals, some amateur rapping, and live musical accompaniment.

One of the items that will be on sale Saturday at Brooklyn Zine Fest is How Do You Like What You Have, the new book of artwork by Lauren Denitzio, formerly of The Measure [sa] and currently of Worriers, which Don Giovanni is releasing. You can pick it up on Saturday at feminist collective For the Birds‘ table.

Lauren is also throwing a release party in Brooklyn on Sunday (4/27 at Lulu’s which her band Worriers is playing, along with their labelmates Shellshag, and local pop punks Chumped. That show starts at 8 PM, is FREE, and will also have copies of Lauren’s new book available. Show flyer below.

Worriers have a couple other shows coming up, including another hometown show on July 11 at Cake Shop with fellow NYC band Adult Dude and Halifax’s Kestrels. All of their dates are listed below.

Speaking of zines and indie/punk bands, Swearin’ and Radiator Hospital play The Miscreant‘s 50th issue party at Silent Barn on May 3.
