Daniel Johnston's songs, usually recorded in spare fashion, have always lent themselves well to interpretation and the upcoming Built to Spill Plays the Songs of Daniel Johnston is further proof of that. Based on rehearsals for the show where Built to Spill backed Johnson, the band definitely bring their own flavor, with Doug Martsch's vocals really matching well to the material. They've just shared another song from the record, "Mountain Top," which was on Daniel's Sparklehorse-produced 2003 album Fear Yourself, and in addition to being a lovely cover, it sounds like it could've been on one of Built to Spill's '90s albums. Listen to that below.

Built to Spill Plays the Songs of Daniel Johnston is out June 12.
