Bushwick Open Studios (BOS) is a three-day arts and culture festival, hosted annually by the volunteer organization Arts in Bushwick (AiB). Now in its eighth year, this celebration of our neighborhood’s vibrant community and local art scene is free and open to the public. The festival dates are May 30th through June 1st, 2014. Open studios hours vary per artist, so check the directory for precise times. Most studios are open 12pm – 7pm on Saturday, May 31st and Sunday, June 1st.

BOS is New York’s largest open studios event, encouraging hundreds of artists to open their doors and share their work. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a series of events, performances, and panels, coordinated by AiB. Participating artists, spaces, and events are listed in the official BOS directory online, on our iPhone app, and in our printed map book. The free printed map will be available to pick up at official BOS 2014 Hub spaces during the festival.

As in previous years, live music plays a big part in the Bushwick Open Studios’ 2014 weekend (May 30 – June 1). The opening night party happens on Friday (5/30) at Radio Bushwick with performances by Silverteeth, Culture Vulture, Life Sized Maps, Star Rover, and Broke MC. $10.

Late night Friday at Body Actualized Center, Newtown Radio is throwing a Bushwick Open Studios afterparty with Weyes Blood, Regal Degal, Max McFerrin, Fast Times, and Poolboy 92. $10, doors at 10 PM with a Brooklyn Brewery midnight happy hour.

On Saturday (5/31) at Silent Barn is the big, all-day tribute to Christo Buffam, the guitarist from Dead Leaf Echo and The Vandelles who died back in March. The event is headlined by A Place to Bury Strangers and features nearly 20 bands. No cover but donations (which go to Buffam’s family and some of the touring bands on the bill) are strongly suggested.

Also on Saturday (5/31) at Bizarre (12 Jefferson St.) there will be a free Electronic Music Showcase featuring “local, up-and-coming electronic music producers.” UPDATE: the lineup of that is onlyponyoni, XUPSTAR, We Are The Wilderness, ADDISON, FENEX, The Azerbaijan A/V Club, DATALOG, droneclone, Lukas Ligeti, Ys, Kasata Sound. Vermillion Bird, and Stéphane Bonenfant. It goes 10pm-4am.

Then on Sunday (5/30) at Radio Bushwick it’s Chief Happenstance Vs. Men United, Jeremy and the Symbols, The Morning Sea, Purmamarca, Brett Saxon and Jon Mizrachi. $5 at the door.
