Butthole Surfers' Gibby Haynes discussed City Gardens on 'The Daily Show' (watch), playing Paul Simon tribute next week

Butthole Surfers

In celebration of her new book, Amy Yates Wuelfing appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart last night (3/25) to discuss her new book, No Slam Dancing, No Stage Diving, No Spikes: An Oral History of the Legendary City Gardens, which focuses on the long-closed, famed NJ venue City Gardens.

Along with her on the show was Butthole Surfer Gibby Haynes, who Amy (and co-author Steven DiLodovico) interviewed for the book, and whose band was one of Jon Stewart’s (who bartended there) first shows at the venue with Dead Kennedys. You can watch a video of Amy, Gibby and Jon discussing the book and past experiences at the venue, below. Also keep an eye out for “Gwar” written on Gibby’s arm in honor of the late Oderus Urungus.

As discussed, there are some upcoming live events for No Slam Dancing, including a signing/reading in NYC on April 19 at Jonathan Levine Gallery (529 W 20th St #9) from 3-5 PM.

Gibby Haynes will also be in NYC soon. He’s taking part in Michael Dorf’s Paul Simon tribute show which happens on Monday, 3/31 at Carnegie Hall. Gibby will be performing as a duo with Bob Forrest (Thelonius Monster, The Bicycle Thief), and other artists include Bob Mould (Husker Du, Sugar), Isobell Campbell (ex-Belle & Sebastian) with Andy Cabic (Vetiver), John Doe (X), Judy Collins, Ben Sollee, Bettye LaVette, Allen Toussaint Josh Ritter, Mike Gordon (Phish), Madeleine Peyroux with Jon Herington (Steely Dan), and more. Tickets for that show are still available.
