There’s less than a month left until Williamsburg’s Cameo Gallery closes its doors for good. Bedford and Bowery just interviewed owner Jify Shah:

Jify knew the building was for sale back in December 2013, but it wasn’t until March 2014 that 88 Property LLC bought the place (an architect is listed as the contact representative on the deed, hinting the building will be undergoing some renovations in the near future). At first, things seemed fine. “It wasn’t immediate,” he said. “But then things got weird and we were basically waiting for a two months notice, which is almost tougher.”

I asked him what he meant by things getting weird. “They wanted us out,” he clarified. “They looked for all possible ways to get us out, until we had no option but to surrender under their terms. So it wasn’t just rent getting high.”

Jify declined to go into specifics, but it sounded like he tried his best to hold on. “I can definitely say that even when I knew it was gonna be over, I still tried to figure out ways to undo it!”

Most but not all of Cameo’s final schedule is up and it includes:

10/31: “Freaky Halloween” party with DJ sets from Neon Indian and Ssion, plus a live performance by Le1f, and karaoke hosted by Samantha Urbani. That is a FREE party and starts at midnight.

11/1: “Bernie Fest” which features comedians Janeane Garofolo, Mark Normand (Comedy Central/Everywhere), Aparna Nancherla (Late Night w/ Seth Meyers), Mike Drucker (The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon), Matt Koff (Daily Show), Greg Barris (Heart of Darkness), Aaron Glaser (Slow Dance), Will Betts, and Emily Lynn. Tickets are on sale and proceeds go to the Bernie Sanders Presidential Campaign.

11/12: Popgun Presents’ Farewell Party w/ Beacon, Glass Gang, DJ Internet Xplorer, DJ David Rafael (tickets)

11/13: Lemonade, Teen Commandments (tickets)

11/14: Class Actress, Starchild & The New Romantic, DJ Mia Moretti (tickets)

11/20: Jukely presents The Juan Maclean (free with RSVP)
