We are currently in the midst of NYC’s Ecstatic Music Festival which is running now through March 21 at Merkin Concert Hall. This past weekend was the fest’s kickoff with My Brightest Diamond’s Sharon Worden performing on Friday (1/25) and Carla Kihlstedt premiering her ICElab-commissioned song cycle, At Night We Walk in Circles and Are Consumed by Fire on Saturday (1/26). Written for nine members of ICE plus Kihlstedt, the song cycle is based on images, impressions and textures taken from dreams from various sources, including the players themselves. Additionally, Kihlstedt’s band, Causing a Tiger, and teen alt-classical ensemble Face the Music played too. Pictures from Saturday’s performance are in this post.

The Ecstatic Music Festival continues on Saturday (2/2) with a collaborative performance from DJ /Rupture and Zs, a show that was originally supposed to happen on February 9 but was moved to this week. Tickets are still available.

More pics from Saturday’s EMF performance are below.
