Ceremony announce new LP on Relapse (stream "Turn Away The Bad Thing")
Following years on Matador and years on Bridge 9 before that, shapeshifting punks Ceremony have signed to Relapse for their new album, In The Spirit World Now, which will be out on August 23 via their new label home. It follows 2015’s The L-Shaped Man, which saw them diving head-first into the same Joy Division influence that their band name comes from, and going by new single “Turn Away The Bad Thing,” it now sounds like they’re mixing the Joy Division-y sounds of that album with the garage punk sounds of its predecessor Zoo and continuing to push forward as well. “We knew this had to be the best thing we have ever done. We couldn’t come back after four years with a record that only had a few good songs,” says guitarist Anthony Anzaldo. “Not reflecting on the evolution of the band is what keeps us motivated. There is always a song we haven’t written, a band we haven’t played with, artwork we haven’t thought of. The new album was produced by the highly in-demand Will Yip (whose recent work includes La Dispute, Turnstile, mewithoutYou, and much more) and mixed by Ben Greenberg (of Uniform, ex-The Men).
